is strongly supported by the Alberta Government and the Premier and is
chaired by Premier Ralph Klein. The government has taken a lead role and
is providing funding and support services "because investing in early
intervention and prevention is the single most sensible thing we can do
as a society as it increases our competitiveness as a healthy,
productive workforce." The Alberta's Promise Board has a
governance role and leadership responsibilities to encourage the
engagement of small business, corporations and individuals and to
increase donations to non-profit programs that support Alberta children
and youth. Alberta and Ontario (with Ontario's Promise) have
initiatives under way and many other provinces have made a commitment to
launch similar initiatives in the next few years leading to what is
ultimately hoped to be a national effort called Canada's Promise.
