Upside Software Gets On Track With Major Railway

Upside Software is selected by a Fortune 200 company

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA—Upside Software Inc., an integrated business-to-business (B2B) enterprise solution provider, announced today the signing of an agreement with The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) for the purchase and deployment of two Upside Software enterprise eBusiness products - UpsideBilling and UpsideContract.

UpsideBilling streamlines the billing process from the receipt of electronic files from vendors to the final approval for payment while ensuring the invoices are accurate based on purchase agreements. UpsideBilling also automates the checks and balances so that only the exceptions require review. In addition, when matched with BNSF's imaging system, the software will automate the routing, review and processing of paper invoices.  UpsideContract is a full feature contract management system. It supports the creation and management of contracts and contract schedules using templates and content repositories. Business rules can be added to enforce policies and procedures and to ensure proper approvals for contract, clause or schedule creation or amendment.

"The selection of Upside Software by BNSF, with more than C$14 billion in revenue is a great win for us," said Upside Software CEO, Ashif Mawji.  Mr. Mawji went on to say, "We have a great suite of truly world class products. BNSF is a great company to work with; they have a solid vision and are determined to be as efficient as possible – we love working with companies like that."

"Efficiency and ease of doing business are among BNSF's core values," says Dennis Johnson, the railway's Vice President, and Controller. "By allowing us to handle transactions more quickly via the Internet, these products not only make our processing of contracts and invoices more efficient, but they also make it easier for suppliers to do business with BNSF. Selection of UpsideBilling and UpsideContract is one more step in our continuous leveraging of technology to make business processes easier and more efficient."

Upside Software products will be implemented within BNSF in two phases, with the delivery of UpsideBilling expected in the fourth quarter 2001, and UpsideContract deployment following in 2002.

A subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation (NYSE: BNI), BNSF operates one of the largest rail networks in North America, with 33,500 route miles of track covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. BNSF is an industry leader in Web-enabling a wide variety of customer transactions. The railway moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world, is America's largest grain-hauling railroad, and transports enough coal to generate more than 11 percent of the electricity produced in the United States.
